Johnson Xuesong Shen

Dr Johnson Xuesong Shen is a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Construction and Management at UNSW Sydney and Founder and Director of the Autonomy and Intelligence in CONstruction (AICON) laboratory. A global leader in applying AI, autonomous systems, digital twins, smart sensing, IoT, mixed reality, and UAV-based LiDAR to civil infrastructure and the built environment, his work includes real-time 3D mapping drones, AI-enabled as-built BIM, and construction equipment emissions modelling. He’s a Chief Investigator for the ARC Research Hub for Human-Robot Teaming for Sustainable and Resilient Construction and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction (IAARC), representing Australia. His contributions have earned distinguished teaching and best-paper awards, including teaching excellence and top conference paper honors.
